What is Christianity and why have a Christian Union?
Christianity is not about a religion; it is about a relationship with a living God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).
Jesus Christ had a message which he delivered whilst on earth, and we believe that this message is as relevant today
as it was then. As Christians we are entrusted with passing on this message to others, so that all might know salvation.
What exactly do Christians believe?
When God created the world, it was perfect…perfect in His eyes, not the way that we loosely use “perfect” for something that is pretty good!
God created man and woman who lived in relationship with Him, and everything was the way He wanted it. Sin entered the world when Satan tempted
man to do something disobedient to God, and ever since then sin has blocked our relationship with God, like a massive wall between us which we
can’t get over, go round or break through. God knew that nothing that man could do would break down that barrier, so He sent His Son Jesus into
the world, to take ALL the sin of the world, and break down that barrier. Jesus, having preached and healed throughout the land He was in, died
on a cross, taking all sin (from little lies to mass murders) once and for all. After three days Jesus rose again, showing that not even death
could beat Him! Through what Jesus did that wall is broken down entirely, forgiveness for all our sin (disobedience to God) is granted, and we
can have a relationship with God the way that He intended it to be from the very beginning. We can live in relationship with Him on earth, and
when we die those who believe go to Heaven, to spend eternity with Him.
Those who accept that Jesus died for all the wrong things they have done in their life gain forgiveness and gain eternal life. Those who don’t,
face a lifetime separated from God, on earth and for eternity in Hell. It IS an important decision.
If you want to accept that Jesus has died for you and want to have a relationship with God, then here is a simple prayer to start that relationship:
Lord Jesus Christ,
I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life (spend a few moments asking for forgiveness for specific things that are on your conscience).
Please forgive me. I now turn from everything which I know is wrong.
Thank you that you died on the cross for me so that I could be forgiven and set free.
Thank you that you offer forgiveness and the gift of Your Holy Spirit. I now receive that gift.
Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit to be with me forever.
Thank you Lord Jesus. Amen.
