Growth and Maturity @ WUCU

The CU have many different groups for encouraging you to grow. Here are just a few:

1: Get invloved in a local Church - CU run Church Breakfasts for the first Five weeks of the Academic Year. These involve coming along for a free breakfast choosing a local church which you would like to go to and being taken there and looked after by 2nd,3rd and 4th years from that church. There are 5 or 6 churches which most students go to, however we are happy to take you to any of the over 30 churches within winchester.

2: We run a system called freshers friend, which means that over the first term or so, if you want to you can have a 2nd or 3rd year who you will be able to contact if you have any problems. They may take you out for a drink or if you are really lucky /unlucky they will cook you dinner. Obviously they are a student too and they will have been a fresher once so they will have some idea of what you are going through.

3: However the key way in which C U aims to help you grow is by running small "cell groups" each week. These give people a chance to explore in more depth some of the issues raised at the main C U meetings. The groups meet up to do bible study, worship and get to know one another better, as well as to witness to our friends on campus, the cells work on a 4 week system of whereby every four weeks the cells hold an event of outreach, which include dinner parties, and getting involved in other events run by the CU.

There are 7 cell groups at this time including one for new christians or those who are just looking at christianity. The cells also aim to help you understand God more and to help you mature in faith and understanding. Cells can meet at any point during the week although Tuesday and Wednesday evenings are common. Each cell has two leaders who run the weekly meetings although all members of the cell are asked to contribute in one way or another throughout the year. The cells are co- ordinated by Alice Edwards
